Add a TXT record on GoDaddy
Publish DomainProof's TXT record from GoDaddy's DNS management page.
If DomainProof detected GoDaddy as your domain's DNS provider, here's how to publish its TXT record from GoDaddy's dashboard.
The record DomainProof asks for is two values shown on the hosted verification page:
- Host — something like
_acme-challenge.example.com. - Value — something like
acme-verify=abc123.
1Open the domain's DNS records
Sign in to your GoDaddy account, go to your Domain Portfolio, and select the domain to open its Domain Settings. From there, open DNS to view its DNS records.
2Add a new record, type TXT
Select Add New Record (GoDaddy's exact label has shifted between redesigns — look for an "Add" action on the DNS records list if this one doesn't match what you see). Choose TXT from the Type menu.
3Enter the name and value
- Name — GoDaddy's Name field wants only the prefix, not the full hostname: drop the trailing
.example.comthat DomainProof's Host value ends with. For a host of_acme-challenge.example.com, enter_acme-challenge. - Value — paste the Value exactly as DomainProof shows it.
- TTL — leave the default (1 hour).
Click Save.
4Recheck
New records can take a little while to propagate depending on the TTL. Back on DomainProof's hosted verification page, click Recheck, or wait for its automatic poll (every 20 seconds) — it's safe to leave the tab open and let it retry on its own.
Where to next
- The hosted verification page — what the record card and recheck button are part of.
- Add a TXT record (any provider) — the same steps in general terms, if your DNS ever moves off GoDaddy.
